Is this a monitoring service or an emergency service?

No. Quiles Mayor is a simple phone managed by the family. The SOS button alerts the family member they set up; it does not call the emergency line or a 24/7 call centre, and it is not a medical device. For a health emergency, you call the emergency services yourselves.

Why is it a subscription and not a one-off payment?

The relay that delivers the SOS alert across networks and the scam-filter updates need a maintained server. The subscription pays for that upkeep. What lives only on her phone (the screen, contacts, medication) would keep working even if you stopped paying.

Does it need the internet?

Not for calls, reminders or the medical card. The SOS alert across different networks and the sync with your phone do use a connection; a SIM or wifi is enough.

How is it different from a Doro or an Emporia?

Those are fixed hardware, €180 to €250, and force your parent to learn a new phone. Quiles Mayor installs on the Android they already have. The investment is in software, not in a piece of plastic.

Is it suitable for advanced dementia?

No. If your mum no longer recognises faces or gets lost inside her own home, this won't help her. She needs in-person care.

My mum lives in another city. Do I have to go and install it?

The initial setup needs the phone in front of you once (twenty minutes). After that, you make changes from your own phone, remotely.

§ 03 · How it works

Start the free trial.

14-day free trial without paying anything. You start the subscription inside the app, install Quiles Mayor on her phone, and pair the two with a QR code.

You add her contacts with photos, her medication and her SOS contact. Twenty minutes in the living room while you make her a coffee.

Stay close, without hovering.

If she presses the button, it alerts you. If she skips a pill, it alerts you. The rest of the time her phone simply works.

We only use a server for what genuinely needs one.

§ 04 · Privacy

Your parent's medical card and contacts are special-category data under GDPR, and they live only on her phone. The sync with yours travels end-to-end encrypted (AES-GCM, X25519 shared secret).

What passes through our server: only the SOS alert when you're on different networks (it carries the encrypted envelope, it doesn't open it) and the list of known scams. What doesn't: photos, contacts, medication, or continuous location.

No continuous GPS. Her location is shared only when she presses SOS or opens "Where I am". You won't know what time she went out to the chemist.

Payment and billing are handled by the App Store or Google Play; cancellation and any refund are requested from the store. Write to [email protected]: a person replies, in English, from the EU.
